“We've transported around 300 tonnes of supplies so far, and we've actually managed to do it all with private cars, with the effort of 10–12 volunteers. Each time we travelled further and further – at the beginning it looked a bit like a relay, because we handed over the supplies to other people who carried them into the country,” says Igor Tracz about helping Ukraine.
A Polish musher and a group of volunteers have been supporting fighting Ukraine since the first days of the war.
So far, 41 convoys have been organised. Among those involved in the activities coordinated by Tracz are Marcin Gortat, the well-known singer Tracy Chapman and veterans of the GROM unit.
“After a few months, we had extensive contacts in Ukraine and started to reach the frontline zones. Our assistance is no longer just about evacuating people and animals – we now carry military and medical equipment, paramedic equipment, battlefield medicine. We bring everything directly to the places where it is needed.
In the beginning, we transported food for animals to Ukraine – people associated with sport helped me. We helped veterinary clinics, animal shelters, we relocated people fleeing from the east to Poland, whole families with pets. When I announced this on social media, people immediately started sending us parcels from all over the world. At the beginning it was small things: pet accessories, food, medicines. With time, there were also medicines and equipment for soldiers.”
